Mountain Home B&B
Everything’s ready to move on, except the leg.
Last evening Blink and 109 (NOBO, starting Feb 6 at Springer) came in late in the day. At first it seemed they were just resting before continuing, then it was clear they were here for the night. They had harvested wild ramps as they hiked yesterday, and had shopped for the ingredients to make up soup. 109’s dad was visiting, and hung out for a long time out in the drive. So they didn’t start cooking until late, and since I’m on the first floor, where the kitchen is, I couldn’t settle in until they were finished, so it wasn’t quiet until nearly 11pm.
As a result, I slept in a little bit, waking a few minutes before breakfast.
The rest of the day was mostly quiet. 109 and Blink decided to zero because they were feeling poorly and needed to rest. Around noon High Viz came in, ending his thru-hike attempt after 3 weeks, having started near Roanoke and come north through Shenandoah.
Mid-afternoon Blink reheated the soup from last evening, and I had half a cup; it was excellent!! So I was able to appreciate the result of the previous evening’s commotion.
The four of us caught a ride into Front Royal for a burger, and a few short supplies for tomorrow. High Viz and Blink are talkers, so 109 and I mostly listened to the conversation. It was reminiscent of the one I had on the train to Harpers Ferry with Carmine. High VIz has had a very colorful life, very much outside of my experience. It was a view into a very different world, and very entertaining! And like Carmine, some darkness and a lifestyle I wouldn’t choose.
After the burgers, we went to the grocery store for more soup provisions. So we may end up with another late evening.
Before we left to go into town, I took a walk around the yard of the B&B, and decided I’ll spend one more day here. If the leg has improved by then, I’ll head out on Saturday morning. If not, I’ll make the hard decision.
Two more folks came in, so the Cabbin is at capacity.
Sorry, no photos these zero days.
