 Trail of Hope Hostel

Woke with a migraine today and rain pouring down; I was glad to be in a bed looking out. Headache succumbed to ibuprofen and a breakfast called the “Brush Ape” at Timbers, although I experienced some aura for awhile around midday. Four of us (Meeko, Jackie, Half Blind and I) got a ride with Junker, one of the folks running the Hostel, down to Timber’s for breakfast; a very good, fairly inexpensive place to eat just .5 miles off trail. Just as we were leaving to come back to the hostel, he showed up again and took us back.

Considered a slack pack this afternoon, but decided I needed to do a couple of town errands. A couple of us here are feeling the pull of the ‘vortex’.

Walked the .7 mile down to Rutter’s for a resupply; trying hard to find lightweight protein at a gas station convenience store (although down here they have more of a selection than, say, a Cumberland Farms). Said “See ya…” to Jackie who’s trying to meet up with a friend up the trail tomorrow.

Dinner at Timber’s – Half Blind & Meeko

So current plan is to launch tomorrow morning and try for roughly 10 miles a day for the next few.

I’ll be at the 100 miles at Lisbon Road, just after Boiling Springs. They say if you can do 100, you can do 2190…

Terms in today’s blog:

Slack pack: to leave one’s pack at a Hostel, get shuttled to a spot up the trail and walk back to the hostel with a day pack.

Brush Ape: (from Urban Dictionary: “An apple-knocker, a hay shaker, a hick, rube, country Jake, a gobby from the country”)

Vortex: a term for town stays where the urge to stay wins out over the pull of the trail.

Sounds to me like you are becoming meshed into the world of the trail, living something a bit different than what we are so used to. Enjoy the mystery as it unfolds.
