July 3rd through the 18th
July 10: I had my third chiropractic visit today. I seem to be progressing, although maybe a little slowly. The chiropractor suggested that I start practice hiking, starting with 20 lbs, either tomorrow or Wednesday. Getting back to the trail may have to wait until early next week.
While I am home, I have taken advantage of the opportunity to have my eyes checked. I have had some issues with floaters and flashes in my left eye, coincident with having fallen on Stratton Mountain. The eye doctor has given me a clean bill of health, so that’s one less thing to worry about.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how this trekus interruptus is impacting my ability to complete the 2190 miles this year. If I can’t get to Katahdin by end of August, I won’t be able to get to Georgia before winter weather sets in in the mountains. So I’m looking at some alternatives, all including waiting to hike Maine, or parts of Maine. Basically, I will see how far I can get before Debbie’s birthday at the end of August, come home for that, then swing down to Harper’s Ferry to head south. That aligns with my original plans to hike Virginia in September, and it will leave a section within drivable range for later hiking in the future.
Obviously, this all very tentative, and rests upon if and when I get back on the trail…
